We’re Going to Vegas!

My daughter is turning 21 next week and we decided to celebrate by having a Mother-Daughter long weekend in Las Vegas.

This was not my first choice.

I have never been to Las Vegas, nor have I ever had any desire to go there for three reasons: 1. The Glitz. I am as big a fan of the “Rat Pack,” as any other Italian-American growing up in the 60’s, but the whole blinking lights, cigarette smoke,  and cocktail waitresses walking around casinos with big hair and not-so-big costumes, just has no appeal to me.  2. I usually can’t make it past 10 pm.  From what I understand, there may be some things going on in Sin City after my bedtime—like everything. I assume I’ll miss some things. 3.  I’m cheap as dirt. “Put it all on the Ace of Spades,” is a sentence, I can assure you, will never come out of my mouth.

So why are we going? It was not for a lack of trying other options. My daughter wanted someplace warm but finding flights that could get us back and forth to Jersey without spending half the time in airports was nearly impossible. With a good rowboat, I could have rowed to Miami faster than take advantage of three flights and 23 hours offered by CheapCaribbean on several of their “deals.”

Plus, my nephew lives in Vegas. We leave tomorrow and much to my daughter’s chagrin, I’ve already found some great walking tours and a 12 hour trip to the Grand Canyon, which thankfully ends before 10 pm. I hope we are still talking by the end of the trip.
